What you will do

In this position you will help to develop and scale up the electrolyzer balance-of-plant (BOP) systems including the water circulation system and hydrogen processing systems as we go from a kW to a MW scale electrolyzer plant. You will work closely with the design, simulation, process engineering and controls team in building up and optimising the fluid handling systems to maximise the performance of the electrolyzer stack while meeting the strictest safety guidelines. This role will also require close interaction with suppliers, partners and customers to ensure that the electrolyzer plant meets all key requirements.

 

Your responsibilities

  • Help in developing a modular skid-based electrolyzer plant from kW scale to MW scale

  • Help build up the electrolyzer stack prototype with optimal fluid flow systems in collaboration with design, simulation and manufacturing teams  

  • Work with process engineering and controls teams to define the specification requirements including the best suitable material, pressure and temperature ratings, reliability, durability, inspection, and test plans for pressure vessels and piping

  • Develop processes and conduct engineering calculations and simulations for high-speed flow, high pressure and temperature of water, oxygen and hydrogen

  • Interact with vendors and fabricators to develop understanding of cost tradeoffs, then work with them to source components and subsystems 

  • Create accurate, complete, and concise engineering documentation,  project development status and test reports

 

Basic qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar

  • 4+ years of industrial experience (oil & gas, chemical processing, water treatment systems, power)

  •  3+ years Industry working experience in pressure vessel and piping sizing, selection, rating and process related applications

  • An unquenchable thirst for knowledge and the ability to quickly adapt to new situations.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar 

  • 6+ years of industrial experience (SMR hydrogen in oil & gas, electrolysis, fuel cells, high pressure systems, fluid handling systems)

  • Familiarity with the properties and handling requirements of hydrogen, oxygen, and deionized/ultrapure water

  • Experience in the design, fabrication, and deployment of modular process skids, pilot plants etc.

  • Experience with plant certification, compliance, and safety per IEC, CE, UL, NFPA, and other codes

  • In-depth working knowledge with ASME pressure vessel and piping codes and standards

  • Solid understanding and direct experience on pressure vessel and piping design, sizing, selection

  • Process modelling and cost modelling with software like Aspen HYSYS, UniSim,  Matlab, etc.
