Senior Design and Simulations Engineer

About the Job

Location: Bengaluru, IN

Type: Full-time (on-site)

Salary: Matching industry standards

Equity: We want the best people to work with us to make affordable green hydrogen a reality and we have an ESOP plan commensurate with that vision in mind.

What you will do

In this position your mission will be to develop and optimize the electrolyzer stack, starting from the pilot to production stage. This includes performing 2D/3D CAD modelling and engineering simulations (FEA/CFD) and working with the additive manufacturing, process engineering and control systems team to quickly iterate prototypes from concept to implementation.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop and design components and assemblies for the electrolyzer stack, to meet functional requirements while minimizing cost. Inspect components for compliance with specifications

  • Perform engineering calculations to support design concepts, including stress analysis for mechanical robustness, CFD for uniform fluid distribution, and tolerance stack-up analysis

  • Collaborate with manufacturing team to design for manufacturability and develop inspection criteria

  • Oversee the rapid prototyping of new system components and develop and perform component and system level testing

  • Oversee documentation for the prototyping of electrolyzer stacks and systems including test plans, technical reports, drawings, bill of material and assembly processes

Basic qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar

  • 4+ years of industry related experience (fuel cells, fluidics, gas separation, flow batteries, piping systems, pressure vessels, automotive)

  • 4+ years of experience designing and analyzing precision components for complex assemblies from concept to fabrication. Projects completed should include design, simulation, drawings, fabrication and testing.

  • Expert in 2D/3D CAD modelling in (at least one) software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Creo or others

  • Expert in FEA/CFD simulation software for stress, thermal and fluids analysis  such as Ansys, COMSOL, OpenFOAM or others.

  • An unquenchable thirst for knowledge and the ability to quickly adapt to new situations. Excited to join a startup and put in the hustle required to get things done!

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar

  • 6+ years of industrial experience (fuel cells, fluidics, gas separation, flow batteries, piping systems, pressure vessels, automotive)

  • Hands-on experience with COMSOL for multi-physics simulations

  • Understanding of devices working under pressure

  • Knowledge of hydrogen systems

  • Knowledge of fluid handling systems such as hydraulics, pneumatics, CNG and/or cryogenics

  • Experience with engineering materials like PTFE, ABS, PPE, 316L, 7075-T6, 440C

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including molding, machining, forming, and joining methods

  • Experience with design sealing systems (O-ring and gasket) as well as in designing components of plastic material

  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Matlab or Python would be advantageous

Even if you don’t meet all the requirements listed, but think you are up to the challenges, get in touch and tell us why you are a good fit for Newtrace. We look forward to hearing from you!
