What you will do

In this position your mission will be to develop a control and safety system for electrolyzer plants from kW scale to MW scale systems. You will work closely with the power electronics, process engineering and software development teams for developing the control and automation hardware and software for the electrolyzer plant. This is a key role around which the control, instrumentation and automation team will be built.

 

Your responsibilities

  • Development of control and management systems focused around process control and optimal system performance 

  • Development of control and safety concepts and subsystems for product and customer safety.

  • Use electrical simulation software tools to model control system designs and simulate expected operation

  • Definition and technical review of PLC automation system and software coding.

  • Develop, read, and interpret Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Electrical Schematics as needed

  • Create and manage methods for data acquisition from devices (via communication protocols such as RS485/232 and others) and interpretation of system data

  • Develop user interface HMI for the electrolyzer plant

  • Creation of automation project documentation (URS, FDS, cause & effect, alarm lists, ITPs, logic flow diagrams)

  • Fault finding and resolution in PLC and MCC electrical panels.

  • Technical review and approval of vendor/subcontractor electrical equipment and software

  • Participate in plant safety studies and design reviews (HAZOP/LOPA).


Basic qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Control Systems, Information Systems or other related fields of study

  • 4+ years of experience developing control and automation systems in industries such as Oil & Gas, Chemical Processing, Gas Processing 

  • Experience with Modbus Protocol (or equivalent), PLC Programming, control systems such as Siemens PCS 7/ S7/ TIA Portal (or equivalent), Data management, C or C++, HMI/SCADA Programming, VB/ Bash Scripting, LABView

  • An unquenchable thirst for knowledge and the ability to quickly adapt to new situations.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Control Systems, Information Systems or other related fields of study

  • 6+ years of experience developing control and automation systems in industries such as Oil & Gas, Chemical Processing, Gas Processing 

  • Expert level experience in software programming and configuration, operator HMI as well as hardware and network engineering for at least one of the popular control systems platforms such as Allen Bradley, Siemens PCS 7/ S7/ TIA Portal, National Instruments PLC equipment or Emerson DeltaV DCS and SIS

  • Knowledge of networking topologies, TCP/IP, network switches, firewalls, routers

  • Hardware In the Loop (HIL) and process and automation system simulations

  • Understanding of P&I Diagram content and format, including ISA symbology for hardware and software as well as an understanding of electrical Schematic Wiring Diagrams regarding power distribution, motor control circuits

  • Experience with control design tool sets desired, e.g. MATLAB Simulink or similar. 

  • Experience with electrical simulation tools desired, eg. NI Testbench or similar.

  • Knowledge of industry specific standards and codes 

  • Familiarity of SIS design, implementation and knowledge of relevant standards
